When we first visited California without definite plans to move, Derek took the time to show us homes in our price range even though he know that we were not ready to buy. Derek patiently answered each and every question (even the ones that we asked twice!) and offered his advice/experience to aspects that we had not thought of. While he is not an engineer, Derek is knowledgeable about the integrity of homes. In Oakland, this is incredibly useful, because often it is not possible to include a contingency for an inspection. So having someone with a knowledge of what pitfalls to avoid is very valuable.
Buying in Oakland is extremely difficult! We were frustrated many times, by properties that sold just out of our reach (even though the listing prices were reasonable!).
